The IRCs work in two directions:
In either case the companies will post their 'offers of technology' or 'requests for help' onto the IRC web site. One function of the Centres is to continually scan the technology offers and requests to see if they can match up requirements. Once a match is determined, staff of the IRC can act as brokers to ensure a satisfactory outcome. There are 68 IRCs located throughout 30 European countries. Most IRCs are operated by a consortium of regional organisations with established reputations in local research and industrial communities. Altogether, almost 250 partner organisations are involved, ensuring a local presence in most regions of Europe. The activities of the IRC are not restricted to cross border activities. The process works equally well for in-country technology transfer. We have established links with networks of referral and government agencies throughout the UK and can facilitate introductions. This can be particularly Useful when expert information or resources are needed for specific research and development projects. TEK manages the South East England Innovation Relay Centre and is your link to the network. The network is a powerful resource and has assisted many SMEs in technology transfer.
