The Guide To Innovation
Any organisation involved in innovation needs a basic knowledge of how and when to use the Industrial Property system of patents, trademarks and industrial designs.
This knowledge, particularly as far as patents are concerned, is needed if the innovation is to be properly protected and a decent financial return obtained. In addition, organisations need this information as business people and not as lawyers.
In other words the information should be provided in a straightforward manner without the use of a lot of legal jargon.
To meet this need, the European Commission setup a team called IP Europe with the remit to improve the awareness, understanding and delivery of the Industrial Property System particularly to SME's. This team has produced an extensive but easy to read Guide to Innovation in Europe. The whole of this Guide is to be found in the CR-ROM "card". It can be read from virtually any pc and it covers the topics:
- How to use patents
- How to use trade marks
- How to design industrial designs
- Determining the viability of your innovation
- Licensing your innovation
- Using patents as a source of information
- A suggested checklist for joint R & D ventures
- Patents and the Universities
